Why is this important?
The Russian pellet manufacturing sector has undergone significant growth and has great potential. Most of the pellet volumes are exported, but domestic consumption is gaining momentum also. The time has come to equally and impartially give responsible pellet producers in Russia the opportunity to cooperate on the main concerns the sector is facing today. As a Self-Regulatory Organisation (SRO), the Russian Pellet Union is in the position to effectively contribute to the development of new laws, norms, and stimulation programmes.

The Russian Pellet Union (RPU) is hosting a webinar on "Changes to the requirements of the leading European certification systems for wood pellets", which will be held on Friday, March 11, 2022 at 8.30 – 10.45 CET.

Today, all leading European certification systems for wood pellets are either finalising their work on the development of their requirements, or have already started to implement them.

The Russian Pellet Union (RPU), in order to protect its business reputation and exclude a discriminatory approach to Russian pellet producers, interacts with the holders of the leading European certification systems and closely monitors the procedures for amending existing certification standards.

In particular, since 2021, the RPU has been actively working with the holders of the SBP certification system, directed against a radical change in the SBP standards.

On 24 November 2021, the European Pellet Council (EPC) General Assembly has accepted the Russian Pellet Union as a full member of the EPC. The meeting was held in person in Brussels, where our representative Rens Hartkamp gave a presentation about the latest achievements of the RPU.
The Russian Pellet Union will now enjoy all privileges as other EPC full members, and can actively contribute to the development of the EPC and the certification system ENplus.

Congratulations to all participants of the Russian Pellet Union!

At the end of December 2021, the news agency “Radio-télévision belge de la Communauté française” (RTBF) published a news article about the refusal of the Government of Flanders (Belgium) a significant part of the import of wood pellets (around 1.5 million tons) from Russia (Siberia), Chile and Canada for consumption by the Biomass Electricity Plant Rodenhuize (Engie) in Ghent. ...

The system of the Russian Pellet Union for an objective determination of pellet color is welcomed by the market with open arms.

More and more pellet manufacturers, traders and service providers have been using RPU’s Pellet Color Determination System. The color is determined directly at the producer, and since the delivery time to the port is often long, buyers have sufficient time to optimize where to distribute the pellets, for example to unload them to a separate warehouse, or to redirect them to another client.

Zijderlaan Handel Maatschappij B.V. (Zijderlaan) has become partner of the Russian Pellet Union (RPU). Zijderlaan is the largest trader of wood pellets in the Netherlands. It procures pellets from many countries, including Russia, and distributes them to clients in the Netherlands, Germany, Belgium and France. At its facility near Rotterdam, Zijderlaan has 60.000 tons storage capacity and operates several automated bagging lines.
